KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Monday afternoon’s sudden and violent rainstorm was another reminder of the changing nature of the weather in west Michigan, and its effect on neighborhoods.
A meeting has been set for this evening in Kalamazoo’s Northside neighborhood to bring homeowners together with the local officials with plans to mitigate the flooding, hear complaints, and take questions.
City commissioner Alonzo Wilson says city officials, Kalamazoo County Drain Commissioner Jason Wiersma, and a representative from the Climate Coalition will be in attendance.
“We’ll be there to get a better understanding of the concerns directly from residents, provide guidance on available resources and support.”
Just a few weeks ago, city crews were dispatched to pump out cellars and backyards in the affected area on the city’s far north side, but those were just temporary solutions.
“This will be a place where Northside residents are able to share their concern regarding the recent flooding issues,” Wilson says.
Some projects are already being planned by the County Drain Office.
Today’s session will begin at 6 p.m. at the offices of the Northside Association for Community Development on North Park Street.
