KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’ s National Bike Month as well as Bike Week in Kalamazoo.
Events began Saturday and continue today with the annual Bike Rodeo.
That’s a free event for kids, to learn about bike safety, pick up a free helmet if they need one, get a free bike tune-up, try out a safety course and even see a bike-powered smoothie station.
According to Kalamazoo City Manager Malcolm Hankins, it’s been moved this year to the Kalamazoo Farmers Market and will be today from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
This Friday will be Ride Your Bike to Work Day, for anyone so inclined, and Saturday morning will be the annual mayor’s bike ride.
Portage city councilman Chris Burns says he will be subbing for Portage Mayor Patricia Randall this year. as she has family obligations.
“Starts at the Kalamazoo Farmers Market, registration at 9:30am and the ride begins at 10am. I probably won’t ride as quickly as the mayor typically does.”
Kalamazoo Bike Week was first held in 2012 to raise cycling awareness and promote bikes as a legitimate form of transportation.
