PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage city council members didn’t gloat Tuesday night at their first meeting since voters rejected a challenge of their new single hauler waste system, but they did thank voters for turning out.
Council members Jim Pearson and Vic Ledbetter were strong supporters of the new trash hauling contract with Waste Management.
Mayor Patricia Randall thanked city staff for getting the results out quickly and accurately.
The special election cost the city about $55,000 to conduct, and opponents and supporters spent about four-times that much campaigning for and against it.
