KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Weapon detector sensitivity at Kalamazoo Public Schools is increasing as the result of a Kalamazoo Central High School student getting into the building with a loaded gun on October 16th.
The district held a safety meeting Wednesday night and superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade explained the changes.
Slade says the videos he watched showed the student did not trigger the alarm and says “there is no 100% fool proof way to keep a weapon out of the building.”
The district is considering adding X-ray machines and requiring students to use clear backpacks, but the superintendent says that will require more discussion with staff, parents and students.
