INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WKZO AM/FM) – The NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Oversight Committee says Western Michigan should have won its season opener over Michigan, but says they can’t change the outcome.
The Wolverines were given an extra 0:00.4, four-tenths-of-a-second, by referees after a Hail Mary pass was incomplete in the end zone, with officials saying that much time was on the official time clock.
However, the clock on the scoreboard at Michigan Stadium and on the TV broadcast showed all zeroes.
The NCAA committee says the instant replay protocols weren’t followed on the second-to-last play and says, if they would have been followed, WMU would have won 12-7 instead of Michigan winning 13-12.
