BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Battle Creek police say a reported attempted kidnapping on July 17th near North Wabash Avenue and Capital Avenue NE did not actually happen.
Their investigation found no criminal activity happened after being told about the attempted abduction of a child.
They interviewed several people, took witness statements and reviewed video surveillance footage in the investigation.
Police then determined the people and the vehicle in the initial report did nothing wrong.
Investigators found that a series of unrelated and coincidental circumstances contributed to the perception that criminal activity had taken place.
While the reporting party’s concerns were genuine and reported in good faith, detectives were able to confirm there was no attempt to lure a child from the residence and no coordinated effort to abduct a child.
The investigation is now closed.
