GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Western Michigan University’s College of Aviation and the West Michigan Aviation Academy (WMAA) are scheduled announce a new pathway partnership Wednesday, which WMU officials say will help prepare the next generation of aviation professionals amid sustained industry demand for qualified pilots.
The event will be held inside a hangar at WMAA’s Flight Training Center in Grand Rapids and will feature remarks from WMAA founder and board President Dick DeVos and WMU President Russ Kavalhuna.
The WMAA-WMU Pathway Program will provide guaranteed admission opportunities annually for qualified WMAA students seeking entry into WMU’s highly selective aviation flight science program.
WMU officials say the partnership builds on an existing credit articulation agreement established between the two institutions in 2024 and reflects the strong academic preparation and aviation experience WMAA students receive before entering college.
Western Michigan University’s College of Aviation is said to be among the nation’s leading collegiate aviation programs and is the only collegiate aviation program in the state of Michigan.
The West Michigan Aviation Academy is located adjacent to the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids.
