PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage city council will be making personnel changes as they welcome their new city manager and take steps to replace a long-time member who has retired.
Dr. Jim Pearson, the long-time mayor pro-tem, decided he wouldn’t finish out his term, and resigned last month.
Trustees will meet at 5 p.m. today to interview applicants to fill out his remaining term.
They may also decide this week which council member will replace Pearson as mayor pro-tem.
New City Manager Karen Dempsey Moran started work on Monday, and will preside over her first council meeting tonight.
Now-former acting City Manager Adam Herringa thanked the council at their last meeting, and will slide back to his regular job as deputy city manager.
Dempsey Horan was the chief administrative officer in The Woodlands Township, Texas.
She succeeds Pat McGinnis, who retired earlier this year, and she will be the first female to serve in that position in Portage.
