PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo city commission has already approved a resolution urging voters to reject a voter initiative for a Health Advisory Committee that appears on the fall ballot.
A similar proposal also appears on the Portage, ballot and city leaders are taking a similar stand.
The proposal has also made next week’s ballot in Battle Creek, Benton Harbor, Lansing and East Lansing.
The charter amendments were put on the ballots by a group called Berrien Forward, based in Berrien County, which is funded by dark money.
They hired people to collect enough signatures to put it on the ballot, without consulting anyone locally about the idea.
Portage city councilmembers Nicole Miller and Vic Ledbetter are on record opposing passage of the initiative.
The group has gotten the measure on the ballot in six communities around the state.
Representatives of the group have not responded to media inquires about their purpose or their source of revenue.
