COVERT TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Holtec International has paused the refueling of the Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert Township, delaying its possible restart.
The plant was supposed to be operating at the start of this year, but equipment and safety issues have prevented it so far.
An upright fuel assembly tilted on August 30th and spokesman Nick Culp says it needs to be retrieved from the reactor vessel.
Culp says the cause is under investigation and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is reviewing what happened.
Holtec does not have an updated estimate for the restart.
