KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s a big weekend for special events in the Kalamazoo area, and the Can Am Peace Jam will be held in a new location.
Organizers say the event, which runs Saturday from 1:00-11:00 p.m., is being reimagined as a vibrant street-level celebration under the rallying cry, “Takin’ It to the Streets!”, and will occur along Water Street from the north downtown Kalamazoo Mall to Edwards Street. Activities will also take place in the nearby Haymarket Plaza.
The City of Kalamazoo has announced that the Arcadia Creek Festival Place site will remain closed to public use while the City continues to address environmental concerns identified through its assessment of the site. The city offered to support the Can Am Peace Jam in finding alternatives due to the necessary environmental remediation.
“We are grateful to the City of Kalamazoo for helping us find a new location for this year’s event,” said Can Am Peace Jam founder Channon Mondoux. “When we learned about the environmental issues at Arcadia Creek Festival Place, our team didn’t hesitate – we did what all resilient people do- we adapted. With the city’s support, we’re transforming this year’s Peace Jam into a vibrant, street‑level celebration that brings the festival directly to the people. It’s still the Peace Jam you love- just with a fresh, community‑centered twist.”
The Can Am Peace Jam is described as a grassroots cultural festival dedicated to music, peace building, and cross-border friendship.
