KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 21-year-old Kalamazoo resident is now charged with illegal weapons offenses and for resisting and obstructing police.
Shelbi Johnson was arrested on Tuesday by the Kalamazoo Crime Reduction Team at Interfaith Homes for being on parole and not to have a gun.
Johnson tried to run off when they approached him in the 1000 block of Interfaith Homes and discarded his backpack, which had the handgun in it. He was caught after a brief chase.
Johnson was arraigned Thursday and was given a $1,000 cash or surety bond.
