SPRINGFIELD, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says a dispute over a missing cell phone led a woman to allegedly point a handgun at a man and threaten to kill him early Wednesday.
At 4:50 a.m. deputies responded to the 1100 block of Harmonia Road in the City of Springfield for a reported assault involving a firearm.
Their investigation determined that a 48-year-old man contacted the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority following a verbal dispute with a 46-year-old female acquaintance over the missing cell phone. When the man attempted to retrieve the phone, the woman allegedly threatened to kill him and pointed a handgun at him. The victim fled the residence and contacted 911.
Deputies arrived at the residence and detained the suspect without incident. After being advised of her rights, the suspect declined to answer questions but acknowledged possessing a handgun and directed deputies to its location.
The firearm was recovered by deputies and was later determined to have been reported stolen.
The Sheriff’s Office says due to a high level of intoxication, the suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being lodged at the Calhoun County Jail. Following medical clearance, she was lodged on charges of felonious assault and possession of a stolen handgun.
This case remains under investigation.
