KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Organizers with Community Action Michigan have submitted petitions with voter signatures to the Kalamazoo and Portage city clerks offices to get a healthcare action plan on the ballot in November.
In Kalamazoo, they turned in over 5,700 signatures and in Portage, they turned in 2,686 signatures.
The minimum number of signatures required in Kalamazoo was around 2,700 and in Portage it was 1,825.
Community Action Michigan says the support they found gathering petition signatures shows “Kalamazoo families and small businesses are holding U.S. Representative Bill Huizenga accountable” after they say he supported bills that raise healthcare premiums, out of pocket costs, and prescription prices.
The healthcare action plan would “be built by regular citizens to develop commonsense solutions to the healthcare affordability crisis and put the needs of local families first.”
They add there will be public hearings to develop ways to help families and small businesses save money on healthcare and get better access.
