KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 33-year-old Kalamazoo woman is being charged in the death of a three-month-old last fall.
November 5, 2025 at 2:12 p.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to a report of a baby not breathing in the 3000 block of Heatherdowns Lane. Once officers arrived they began life-saving measures on Brooklyn Ja’veil Jackson, who was found unresponsive. KDPS says despite emergency medical care, the infant did not survive.
After an investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigations Division, along with the Kalamazoo Forensic Crime Lab, the Kalamazoo County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide in March.
Last Thursday the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a two-count felony warrant against Tonette Daytonya Sigsbee for involuntary manslaughter and tampering with
evidence. She was arrested the same day. Sigsbee was the child’s caretaker at the time of the incident.
Sigsbee was arraigned before Judge Becket J. Jones Monday, where she was given a $100,000 personal recognizance bond.
