COOPER TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A decade after nine cyclists were hit by Charles Pickett Jr. in Kalamazoo County, friends, family, and other cyclists gathered yesterday to “Finish The Ride” to remember the five who were killed.
Paul Gobble, Sheila Jeske, Jennifer Johnson, and Paul Runnels were injured and Runnels led the pack of bicycles from Gull Road to the memorial site.
From there, over a dozen bicyclists finished the over 20-mile bike ride that the nine were doing when they were hit by Pickett’s pickup truck.
The crash killed Debbie Bradley, Melissa Fevig-Hughes, Fred Nelson, Larry Paulik, and Suzanne Sippel on June 9, 2016.
It happened about four months after Jason Dalton shot and killed six people and wounded two others around Kalamazoo in February. He is serving life in prison without parole for his crimes.
