BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Battle Creek man is in custody after an attempted abduction Tuesday morning near Ann J. Kellogg School.
The Battle Creek Police Department says around 8:00 a.m. officers were dispatched to 306 Champion Street.
They say a 9-year-old student was walking to school when she was approached by the 22-year-old man. The child reported she believed the man was attempting to abduct her. The individual was not known to her.
The school’s principal witnessed the interaction and confronted the individual, who then left the area.
Officers responded to the area and located the individual a short time later. He was taken into custody.
The man was lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on a charge of accosting a minor and an additional unrelated charge.
The incident remains under investigation.
